Sunday was Carnival Day at the club, and with a beautiful day and a good green no-one had any reason to blame anyone but themselves if they didn’t play well. Another beautiful morning with light winds that shifted and built up during the day. A commendation to Merv with a personal best score. Also Beth Caskey who scored a perfect in the first round with her new 6.5 x 47 proving the case for experimental cartridges.
Last week at the Crows Nest Club competition, the club won a couple of gongs with Rob Bondfield winning a third overall in target rifle class and Graham Eagle taking the best score for B grade 500 yard range.

Southern Cross Bowls Club
It was very busy at the Cross last week with our open Carnival on Sunday and the Turkey triples on Wednesday. Thank you once again to the Warwick Credit Union and Hope’s Body Repairs for their sponsorship of our Carnival. It was a huge success with a full green and the visiting teams were from Warwick, Tannymorel, Texas, Killarney, Clifton, Stanthorpe, Warwick East, Goondiwindi and two Southern Cross teams.
The overall winners were W. Tucker, K. Bryson, D. Callaghan and T. Banditt on 42 points.
Runners-up were C. McCosker, L. Tucker, G. Assay, L. McCosker also on 42 points but with a lower margin.
First round winners was the Stanthorpe team of O. McPaul, C. Jones, B. Brown and J. Liddy.
Second round winners was the Warwick club’s team of D. Buchbach, P. Wagner, B. Johnstone and J. Rickard.
Third round winners was the Texas team of T. Edmondstone, B. White, R. Middleton and S. Mardon.

One social game of triples was played last Thursday – B. O’Brien, D. Cross, L. Marriott d C. Wickham, Y. Reid, B. Donovan 19-10. Unfortunately in the Club pairs D. Cross, B. Donovan won on a forfeit from L. Heywood and L. Butler. The final of the club pairs will now be played on Friday 20 February at 1pm – C. Wickham, C. Sawyer v D. Cross, Y Reid. There will be social bowls today Thursday 19 February at 3pm. Afternoon tea will be at 2.30pm.
This coming Sunday, 22 February will be the Management meeting at 9.30am followed by the men’s meeting at 10.45am. After the meetings there will be social mixed bowls at 1pm.
