Drug drive blitz
SEVENTEEN people have been charged in a highway drug blitz last week.
Stanthorpe region police and the Brisbane Road Side Drug Testing Unit conducted drug tests along the New England Highway at Wallangarra and Applethorpe.
Seven drivers allegedly tested positive to the drug tests while 10 were charged with a range of drug related offences.
Marijuana and methamphetamine were seized in the operation.

Waste belt
WORK began this week on the construction of a new waste transfer station to service Granite Belt residents.
The Northern Granite Belt Waste Transfer Station is part of the Southern Downs and Regional Council’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan 2014-2024.
The site of the waste transfer station, Taggart Road, The Summit, was chosen after an extensive search for suitable areas within the northern Granite Belt region.
Accessibility of the site as well as its size were two of the many factors that contributed to the decision.
