Big brass uncorked

Stunning autumn trees at Robert Channon Wines.

BRASS and Wine, Robert Channon Wines’ annual jazz and band day, is on again this Saturday, 23 May.
Admission is free and it’s a day to come out to the winery and enjoy food, wine and free musical entertainment.
The Stanthorpe RSL Brass Band will be playing as usual and this year will be producing a mighty and stirring sound.
The band had dwindled to less than a dozen players not long ago but with the infectious enthusiasm of new band director Aaron Buchanan there are now more than 30 players, all ready to play their hearts out for the audience on Saturday.
Jazz and big band music will be in the hands of new visitors to the winery, the Downlands College Stage Band from Toowoomba.
“The music is outdoors, but can go indoors into our Swigmore Hall if it rains or snows,” Robert Channon said.
“There is no admission charge and there will be a barbecue running as well as lunches, coffee and cakes from the Singing Lake Cafe and, of course, plenty of wine.
“Table bookings can be made for lunch in the Cafe but there will also be plenty of seating for those who just want to drop in and out during the day.”
The music should start at about 11.30am.
“We are looking forward to a great day,” he said.
