A FIRE tore through a rental property near Warwick just hours before a family of nine was due to move in.
The blaze, which is not being treated as suspicious, destroyed the 100-year-old weatherboard house on Roona Road at Junabee in the early hours of Monday morning.
No-one was in the home at the time, with a last-minute decision to paint the house extending the tenants’ move-in date from Friday to Monday.
A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said crews were called to the fire south-east just of Warwick at 4am after a truck driver saw the blaze.
Passersby are being advised to steer clear of the scene due to the possible threat of asbestos.
Fire investigators are yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
The owner of the house – a Junabee man – was unavailable for comment this week.
