Shocking drunk driver

ON MONDAY a 34-year-old Mt Colliery man was allegedly caught three times over the legal limit in a school zone.
The man was pulled over outside the Killarney School at 2.50pm and is believed to have blown 0.168.
His licence was suspended immediately and he will appear in Warwick Magistrates’ Court on 8 September.
House fire at Inglewood
A DEVASTATING fire has destroyed a home in Inglewood just after midnight on Friday.
Emergency services were contacted at 12.45am on 15 August after the occupants of the house, on Columba Road in Gore, allegedly woke to their house on fire. They escaped the blaze unhurt but the house was totally destroyed.
Police and fire investigation services are currently inspecting the matter.
More drug drivers
OVER the weekend a total of 10 people returned positive roadside drug tests across the region.
Warwick, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, Allora and Clifton all received at least one positive roadside drug test over the weekend of 15 and 16 August.
They were caught through a combination of roadside drug testing and random tests.
Drug offences on the rise
STANTHORPE police recorded four positive roadside drug tests over the past week and found a quantity of illegal drugs in searches.
Last Thursday night a 32-year-old man from Basin Pocket was charged with possessing cannabis and a smoking utensil after his vehicle was stopped at Applethorpe. On Sunday night, a search of a vehicle in Applethorpe uncovered a quantity of cannabis and a smoking utensil with a 16-year-old Glen Innes youth receiving drug diversion as a result.
A search warrant executed on an Amosfield Road property premises on Friday night resulted in a quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia being found.
Fishy burglary in Warwick
LAST week, sometime between Tuesday 11 and Saturday 15 August, a quantity of fishing gear was stolen from a shed on Meneely Street, Warwick.
A locked shed was broken into, and the owner reported the matter to police on Saturday after they realised the fishing equipment was missing.
Police urge anyone with information to contact the Warwick police station or Crime Stoppers.
Drink rite at Stanthorpe RSL
AS A part of Road Safety Week this week, Stanthorpe police will hold a drink rite event at the Stanthorpe RSL on Friday at 5pm.
Community members will be given the opportunity to be periodically breath tested in order for them to better gauge how many standard drinks they are pouring when the make themselves a drink.
The activity is aimed at raising awareness in those who consume alcohol and then plan to drive a vehicle.
