Costs on the agenda

A big week for SDRC ratepayers.

IT’S a big week for council news with the rate discount period ending, water meter readings to commence and a series of financial forecast information sessions to be held across the Southern Downs next week.
The deadline to receive the discount on payment of 2015/16 rates and charges is 5pm on Friday 4 September.
Payment information can be found on the back of rates notices. For any further information regarding paying rates or any other queries contact SDRC on 1300 697 372.
Next week, council will host three meetings held across Warwick, Allora and Stanthorpe. The meetings will discuss the Southern Downs Long Term Financial Forecast. The information sessions will outline the current financial planning that is in place and will give residents an opportunity to seek clarifications or ask questions in relation to the Long Term Financial Forecast.
“As part of the information sessions, council officers will cover issues such as debt management, capital works delivery, labour force size, rates, changes to Federal and State government funding, as well as forecasted income and expenditure levels over the next 10 years,” Southern Downs mayor Peter Blundell said.
The meetings will be:
* Warwick Town Hall, Monday 31 August, 5.15pm for 5.30pm-7pm.
* Allora Community Hall, Tuesday 1 September, 12.45pm for 1pm-2.30pm.
* Stanthorpe Civic Centre, Wednesday 2 September, 12.45pm for 1pm-2.30pm.
Finally, water readings will commence on Monday 31 August until the end of September. Residents have been reminded to ensure water meters are easily accessible for meter readers.
“If meters and stop taps cannot be located easily, water damage to your property and the cost of water consumption could escalate,” Cr Blundell said.
