Footy finals disturbance
STANTHORPE police were called to a disturbance near the intersection of Maryland and Railway streets, about 11.30pm on Saturday night.
A group of intoxicated people, believed to have been celebrating Stanthorpe’s grand final win, were at the intersection when violence broke out. Subsequently a 32-year-old Ashford man was arrested for obstructing police. The man’s 20-year-old female partner then tried to intervene, obstructing police and was also arrested. The group was then said to have turned against police with the officers resorting to the use of a taser to control them.
In the process of arresting the Ashford man, a female police officer was head-butted resulting in a man being charged with serious assault of a police officer. Two officers received minor injuries during the altercation.

Knockout punch outside Central Hotel
A 29-YEAR-OLD man has been knocked unconscious outside Central Hotel in Stanthorpe on Friday night after trying to help another man.
The 52-year-old offender is believed to have been evicted from the premises due to intoxication, when the 29-year-old man tried to help him home. The older man then punched the younger man twice in the head, knocking him unconscious for a short time.
Police are currently investigating the matter.

Drug drivers overtake drunks

However there were two positive drugs tests recorded. A 23-year-old male and a 33-year-old-male both returned positive drug tests after being stopped at Glen Aplin and Stanthorpe’s CBD.
