Over the weekend the eighth annual Six-Banger Nationals were held at Warwick Dragway.
On Saturday the field was open to all vehicles, regardless of cylinders. Then on Sunday the Six Banger Nationals main event took place with the eight mile track open to any six-cylinder car with a variety of street, modified and classic cars on display.
There were expected to be more than 100 entrants participating in the weekend’s events and that prediction wasn’t too far off.
Organiser Lyn Stewart said it was another successful event.
“It was fantastic and everyone had a ball,” she said.
“It’s the eighth years its run and we ended up getting close to 90 entrants.”
The event has a serious side.
It was originally organised by Lyn and her late husband, Mark.
“My husband and I started it. He was killed in a work accident in 2012 and I’ve continued to run it in his memory,” she said.
“Our son comes up and on every Sunday morning, when the event is held, he makes a memorial pass in his father’s car to start the day.
“It happens every year. It’s very emotional. A lot of people miss Mark. Everyone adored him.
“Michael Borg took out the overall memorial trophy. He’s from New South Wales and he was one of Mark’s closest friends.
“He’d be very proud if he knew how it was all going.”
