A MULTICULTURAL football carnival will be held on Saturday 19 September at Queens Park as part of the Peace Project.
Monday 21 September is the United Nations International Day of Peace and the Warwick Football Association together with the Peace Project will host the carnival. They have been jointly putting the carnival on since 2005.
Peace Project organiser Ruth Power said it would be a community celebration through sport.
“We are welcoming teams from new Australian communities in Brisbane including four teams from various African communities and from the Indonesian community,” she said.
Warwick will also be represented with the Warwick Wolves participating in the carnival.
Ms Power is urging everyone to get down to Queens Park on Saturday and support the event.
“There will be a high standard of play with very skilled players so we should see some great action. Please come along and see the action and welcome these visitors to our community,” she said.
It will begin at 10am and finish about 4.30pm with an opening by councillor Neil Meiklejohn. This will be followed by a performance by the Koori King of Country Roger Knox.
The carnival is a part of an international initiative called the Global Peace Games which are endorsed by FIFA and the United Nations.
