Rose Festival blooms again

President Winsome Anderson and 2014 Judge Duanne Karle from WGG.

THE 53rd Annual Rose Festival at St Mark’s Parish Hall on Grafton Street is on Friday 9 October.
Experienced and new rose growers are invited to exhibit their blooms in five competition categories. Newcomers or inexperienced growers can also enter a Novice Category which is designed for those who have never been awarded a prize in any of the previous 52 Rose Festivals.
The Competition Schedule is available from St. Mark’s Church or by emailing Sue at sue.nalder@gmail.com. It can also be downloaded from warwickanglican.org.au and visiting the Events Page.
It is free to enter the competition but entries must be brought to St Mark’s between 8.30am and 10.30am on Friday 9 October. There are cash prizes and trophies which record the names of the growers of the winning roses. These trophies are permanently displayed in the Parish Hall in a special trophy cabinet commissioned in 2012 to commemorate the 50th Rose Festival.
The doors of the heritage Parish Hall will open at 1pm for a 1.30pm start for the afternoon event, the trophy and prize presentation. The $6 entry cost includes a lucky door prize ticket, musical entertainment from Sue Needer and Laraine Stanley, savoury and sweet treats for afternoon tea and viewing of the display of roses.
The drawing of the main raffle (tickets $1 each) the multi-prize raffle (tickets $2 each) along with the drawing of the lucky door prize, will be followed by the mini cent sale (tickets $2 each) to complete the afternoon’s events.
St Mark’s Women’s Guild works with the support of the Southern Downs Regional Council, the Warwick Credit Union, Mrs Judy Hall, Mrs Dorrie Lynch and the family of the late Halvor Guy for the cash prizes and perpetual trophies. The Champion Rose will again be displayed in the crystal Hazel Hoffman Memorial Vase.
