Kids learn from their free range buddies

WITH the increasing problem of childhood and adult obesity in Australia, Free Range Kids Child Care has a focus on promoting good eating and exercise habits at an early age that will carry through to a child’s adult life.
At Free Range Kids, staff believe children need fresh air, exercise and physical activity to keep their bodies and minds fit and healthy.
Free Range children are encouraged to be physically active and are provided with an environment to promote this lifestyle.
The centres have minimal media or technological activities for children because Free Range believes children can learn just as well from spending active time outdoors.
In particular, the Junior Farmers’ Program encourages participation from all groups in the centre to learn from the world around them outdoors.
The objective of the program is for children to develop their skills through the management of a small farm, for children to demonstrate an understanding about caring for the natural environment, and for children to have an awareness of the need to sustain farming as a natural resource for the community in the future.
Children will have the opportunity to care for and learn about farm animals and what they mean to the environment and will be able to assist staff in feeding chickens and collecting their eggs.
They also participate in the centre’s veggie garden by preparing the plot, sowing seeds, watering, fertilizing produce, weeding and harvesting the crop.
Staff will assist and guide children through this process.
Produce will be used in the kitchen for children’s meals which are provided in the centre.
This helps children understand where their food comes from and will help them to make healthy food choices throughout their lives.
For bookings contact Jodie on (07) 4684 3685 of visit Free Range Kids Child Care at 63 Barrawell Street, Wallangarra.
