LOCAL man David Littleproud has won LNP preselection for the Federal seat of Maranoa.
The Warwick businessman was one of the frontrunners in the race and beat out Maranoa councillor Cameron O’Neil, graziers Rick Gurnett and Alison Krieg, and banking manager Lachlan Douglas for the position.
The move comes on the back of long-serving LNP Maranoa MP Bruce Scott’s retirement. The seat is regarded as one of the safest in Australia for the LNP.
Results of the postal ballot were revealed on Friday with Mr Scott congratulating Mr Littleproud on the win.
Mr Scott said he looked forward to working with his replacement.
“I believe David has the knowledge, leadership and passion required to be a strong advocate for the Maranoa electorate,” Mr Scott said.
“I look forward to working with David in the lead-up to the 2016 election.
“I would also like to offer my congratulations to the other preselection candidates – Lachlan Douglas, Cameron O’Neil, Alison Krieg and Rick Gurnett – who showed dedication and respect for the party’s preselection process. I wish them well in their future endeavours.”
