Inglewood sees light

The mobile lighting tower was delivered last week.

INGLEWOOD SES will now be better equipped to handle night time operations after obtaining a grant for the purchase of a mobile lighting tower.
The successful grant of $30,855.45 was obtained from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund with the lighting tower delivered last week.
Local Controller Ann McGlashan said it will be shared in the region.
“The light tower will be shared with Texas, Yelarbon and Goondiwindi SES units. It will also potentially benefit a number of community events” she said.
Ms McGlashan said that close to 80 per cent of the unit’s callouts were at night and that the tower would assist the community.
“The community will benefit from it during storms and flooding if an evacuation centre is set up or at the SES HQ to supply lighting while the power is down,” she said.
“Inglewood as well as other groups have been down on the amount of callouts this year through the winter months which is a good thing.
“You cannot stop or prevent severe weather events, but you can prepare yourself ahead of time by cleaning gutters to prevent run-off from backing up into eaves, trimming overhead branches and securing or bringing in loose items to prevent them from becoming missiles in strong winds. Having an emergency kit stocked means you will have essential items on hand should you become isolated or without power.”
Inglewood SES was established in 1975 and has around 30 members with over 700 people accessing their services annually for things such as assisting with traffic control, land searches and responding to natural disasters.
