ORGANISERS of Warwick’s Christmas Carols in the Park have moved to assure the community that the essence of the show will remain the same despite reports of changing performers.
At a meeting held on Monday, Southern Downs Regional Council’s Community Services manager Sheila Stebbings said there would be a shift this year to try and accommodate everyone.
“It will be different this year,” she said.
“The changes were about finding that balance between what people want. This year there will be something in it for everyone.”
Although artists have not yet been announced and timing issues meant schools could not be involved, the carols plan to have a mixture of traditional carols with solo artists and groups. There will of course be Santa and his elves along with food stalls and entertainment for the whole family.
There will also be a special guest artist that is planned to be announced on 1 December.
The event has been running for over 25 years, initially starting of as an initiative of Youth for Christ as a way to help young people.
Mayor Peter Blundell said he would be getting up to belt out a few tunes.
“The community loves Christmas carols,” he said.
“The feedback we received from the community is that they want to sing the carols.
“People want to be a part of the build up to Christmas and celebrate that goodwill and humanity. It’s what Christmas is all about.”
Leslie Park will again host the carols on Sunday 20 December, with festivities kicking off from 5.30pm.
