Speak up over planning scheme

The council wants to increase the size of the zone.

THE consultation period for the proposed amendment to the Southern Downs Planning Scheme is now open.
Southern Downs Regional Council is welcoming public submissions as part of the community consultation process which ends on Friday 11 March.
At its general meeting on 24 June, the council resolved to make a major amendment to the Southern Downs Planning Scheme to include additional land in the north of Warwick in the Specialised Centre Zone and subsequently provided details of the proposed amendment to the State Government along with a request for a state interest review.
Southern Downs Regional Council’s Director Planning, Environment and Community Services Ken Harris said the council had received confirmation from the Queensland Government that the relevant state interests have been integrated into the proposed amendment and that the council may undertake public consultation.
“The proposed amendment is now available for community consultation and any person is welcome to make a written submission to council on any aspect of the proposed amendment during the consultation period, which is open until 5pm on Friday 11 March 2016,” he said.
“The purpose and general effect of the proposed amendment is to include more land within the Specialised Centre Zone to consolidate the area already within this zone and to provide areas of land of adequate size to accommodate larger developments such as showrooms and homemaker centres, which would accord with the purpose of the Specialised Centre Zone.”
Submissions to the council on the proposed planning scheme amendment must be in writing and, unless the submission is made electronically, signed by each person making the submission; be received on or before 5pm on Friday 11 March; state the name and residential or business address of each person who made the submission; state the grounds of the submission and the facts and circumstances relied on in support of the grounds; and be made to Southern Downs Regional Council at PO Box 26, Warwick, Queensland, or to mail@sdrc.qld.gov.au.
The proposed amendment to the planning scheme is available for inspection and purchase at the council’s offices at 64 Fitzroy Street, Warwick, and at 61 Marsh Street, Stanthorpe.
It can also be viewed on the council’s website www.sdrc.qld.gov.au.
