THE annual Opera in the Vineyard, this year headlined by Australian opera great David Hobson, has been praised for its success.
Southern Downs MP Lawrence Springborg commended the Stanthorpe Rotary Club, Ballandean Estate and the Puglisi Family on another hugely successful and outstanding Opera in the Vineyard last weekend.
“Through the vision of friends and neighbours, Angelo Puglisi and the late David Pugh, Opera in the Vineyard has become an outstanding annual event and is a magnificent credit to all involved.
“The opera is one of south-east Queensland and the Granite Belt’s premier cultural events on the social calendar,” Mr Springborg said.
“Since its inception 20 years ago, the organisers of the opera have donated approximately $1m to charity.
“The Wesley Hospital Rotary Lodge, Brisbane, and many local groups have been the recipients of funds from the Opera in the Vineyard event.
“I commend the Stanthorpe Rotary Club, the Puglisi Family and Ballandean Estate for their devotion and dedication to this event.
“Bringing a large number of visitors to the Stanthorpe district for an unforgettable weekend of fine music and excellent country hospitality, the event demonstrates the wonderful example of the passion and commitment of the Granite Belt residents and businesses to work together for a purpose,” Mr Springborg said.
