THE Superbikes come to town this weekend when round five of the 2016 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship, (ASBK) hits the track at Morgan Park this weekend.
Both the Rose City Shoppingworld and the Southern Downs Regional Council have gotten behind the event with the shopping centre holding a meet and greet on Thursday 4 July and mayor Tracy Dobie set to take to the track.
Rose City Shoppingworld has played a key role in the support and promotion of the round five race and will host the official ASBK Meet and Greet from 4.30pm.
Rose City marketing manager Louise de Lissa said she was pleased to be hosting the official ASBK Meet and Greet.
“Rose City Shoppingworld is very excited to provide a venue for fans to come and meet the riders of the Superbike Series,” she said.
“It will be a sneak preview before a wonderful weekend of racing here at Morgan Park in Warwick.”
“There are many children and adults alike from Warwick who love this sport and this is a one off chance to see and experience the bikes and the riders up close and personal.”
With the ASBK injecting into the economy substantially over the three-day event, the Southern Downs Regional Council is excited to be playing host with Mayor Dobie even joining in on the festivities on Sunday with a ‘Ride of a lifetime’ pillion ride.
Cr Dobie said the superbike round was another coup for the Southern Downs region, which has a strong and growing reputation as a horsepower and motorsport mecca.
“Being able to attract major events like the Australian Superbike Championship to our region is fantastic and offers enormous benefits, including national coverage,” she said.
“This is ‘gold’ for our community. It’s an opportunity to showcase the Southern Downs to the visiting teams, riders and race fans.
“Not only does it provide great entertainment for locals, it’s a huge drawcard for visitors who will spend their dollars on accommodation, food and other services while they’re here,’ she said.
Cr Dobie said she was also looking forward to the exhilaration of the pillion ride.
“To get on the back of a superbike with a former Australian or World Champion road racer is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I’m feeling the ‘need for speed’,” she said.
The meet and greet is at Rose City Shoppingworld from 4.30pm on Thursday while the racing is at Morgan Park Raceway to watch these athletes compete in the penultimate round of the 2016 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli.
