SOUTHERN Cross Bowls Club Secretary, Cheryl Wickham, is thrilled with how professional the green is looking at the 142 Palmerin Street site.
Cheryl said the project, assisted by the Southern Downs Regional Council Community Grants Program, enabled the club to have 24 new bench seats installed by local supplier Shellys Industries, around the perimeter of the lawn green.
“It is very exciting to have had this work completed in time for our 70th birthday in 2017,” Cheryl said.
Looking back over the initial membership register with 114 financial members in 1948 to the current 64 financial members, Cheryl agrees that while some of the names and faces have changed over the years, the sportsmanship and long-time friendships have endured.
The clubhouse is used on a regular basis for community events and gatherings, with approximately $10,000 raised each year to support local, state and national charities.
