Drug drivers off the road

A busy week for Stanthorpe police.

ELEVEN people have been arrested for drug-driving in the past week following a traffic enforcement program in the Stanthorpe CBD.
Officer in charge of Stanthorpe police Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said visiting police from Taskforce Maxima Road Policing Unit, assisted by local officers, saturated the CBD Monday through to Wednesday netting ten while another driver was intercepted on Friday evening in Lock Street, Stanthorpe.
He said all tested positive to either cannabis or amphetamines and most would appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates’ Court on 28 September.
The 26-year-old male driver of a Holden Commodore that left the road and ended up on the railway line at the intersection of Tennant Road and Granite Belt Drive this past Tuesday evening has been further charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Police said he was initially charged on the night of the offence with Failing to Supply a Specimen of Blood for analysis.
His male companion remains in hospital recovering from injuries sustained in the crash.

Noisy night
STANTHORPE police attended a disturbance in Archibald Street, about 2.40am on Saturday morning.
Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said the attending police issued a Noise Abatement direction to a 35-year-old male resident of the street however he was charged a short time later with both public nuisance and resisting arrest after the situation deteriorated.
Earlier in the night, shortly after midnight, police intervened in a disturbance between a male person and security outside the Central Hotel.
The 19-year-old man was given an official move-on direction by police but was then arrested for disobeying that direction after he continued to argue with police.
