Time’s right twice a day but ‘fix’ cost is alarming

Our old ticker needs some adjustment.

THOSE observant folk up the main street will have noted that the Warwick Town Hall clock is stuck at either 8am or 8pm, depending on which way you look at it.
The old ticker and Rose City landmark has caused the Southern Downs Regional Council a few headaches over the years and will need some fiddly adjusting to get it back on time and a budget allocation for a long-term fix.
The council’s engineering services acting director Michael Bell told the Free Times the clock mechanism was “a very old piece of infrastructure which has posed some ongoing issues over the years”.
“With the clock being so old, it’s not easy to source parts quickly, and council also has to access specialised contractors from Brisbane to undertake maintenance and repairs,” Mr Bell said.
“This can take time and sourcing expertise from Brisbane means it can be a costly exercise.
“In the short term, council staff can adjust the clock manually. In the longer term council plans to fix the problem permanently.
“This will require specialist services, with the cost estimated at approximately $40,000, and council would need to consider making a budget allocation for this work.”
