No need to leave town

SPRING is well and truly here and Warwick’s main street, the heart of the commercial centre, is looking sensational – a reminder of the great benefits of living and shopping locally.
Warwick has everything consumers could possibly need or want and there are plenty of great reasons to spend hard-earned dollars in local business houses which offer so many great products and deals, especially in the lead-up to Christmas 2016.
Warwick Chamber of Commerce president Lewis von Stieglitz said the chamber encourages locals to keep their money in town where the economic benefits are significant.
“We want to see our community supporting locally owned businesses and services – it keeps our local economy ticking over,” Mr von Stieglitz said.
“In particular now that springtime is here we have many local businesses re-stocking for gardening and summer activities so it’s a great time to shop for what you need for those springtime jobs around home.
“We’re also starting to get ready for the Christmas season and our local traders are hoping this will be a prosperous season for them.”
Mr von Stieglitz said the Rose City Shoppingworld redevelopment and expansion was a positive for the town.
“It’s good to see local contractors being employed and the contractors working on the project are in turn spending their money in our shops, which is great,” he said.
The Rose City Shoppingworld expansion is going full-steam ahead and owners the McConaghy Group still expect a mid-to-late 2017 opening.
Fitzroy Street has been re-opened to traffic with the section of the street between Palmerin and Guy streets having been closed off while the McConaghy Group completes works associated with the $40 million expansion of the centre.
“Completion of the Rose City redevelopment is expected in mid-to-late 2017 and will employ up to 300 construction workers,” a McConaghy Group spokesman said last month.
“Local trades are used wherever possible.
“The redevelopment is being staged to keep as much of the centre functioning as possible until full completion.
“The Coles re-opening will be completed in the final stages.
“Formal marketing and negotiations with possible new tenants is underway and announcements of new tenancies will be made at the appropriate time.”
Williams the Shoe Men is opening a new outlet in the former premises of Payless Shoes and Robins Kitchen has moved to new digs nearby in the centre
Locals are hotly awaiting news of who prospective tenants may be for the refurbished Plumbs Chambers building on Fitzroy Street as well as other new traders for the revamped centre.
