Will gates start the journey home?

The future of the historic Glengallan gates in Warwick’s Leslie Park will be debated at a special meeting of Southern Downs Regional Council in Warwick on Monday.
As reported in the Free Times, the Glengallan Homestead Trust and descendants of former Glengallan owners have renewed calls in recent months for the gates to be returned to the homestead, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
The sandstone pillars and iron gates were gifted to the city of Warwick in 1940 by then-owner of Glengallan Homestead Oswald Slade, to mark the centenary of the Leslie Brothers settling in the area.
Councillors will decide on Monday to either approve or refuse the return of the gates to Glengallan, or to conduct a public consultation exercise.
The special meeting will be held at 8.15am on Monday 13 March, at the Warwick council chambers.
