Re-zoning moratorium plea declined

The GrainX site at Allora.

By Jeremy Sollars

Public consultation on controversial land re-zonings in the region proposed by the Southern Downs Regional Council closes next Friday 31 March.
The re-zonings include a plan to allow intensive animal and noxious industries within Warwick’s Morgan Park buffer zone and to change the zoning of the GrainX site at Allora from residential to industrial.
Warwick’s RANGE resident’s action group requested the council consider a moratorium on the GrainX re-zoning as the council is pursuing legal action against GrainX over alleged non-compliance with operating conditions, but the request was refused this week.
The proposed amendments also include –
* Amendments to the Flood hazard overlay;
* Changes to the Warwick Bacon Factory Overlay;
* Implementation of a Carnell Raceway Overlay;
* Proposed Changes for Motor Sport Facilities at Carnell Raceway;
* Residential Uses within 1 kilometre of an Intensive Animal Industry;
Fact sheets on the proposals are available from council offices and on their website at www.sdrc.qld.gov.au
Members of the public are welcome to make appointments with council’s Planning Department to discuss the proposed amendments.
For further information about the proposed amendments, or to arrange a meeting to discuss the amendments, contact the council on 1300 697 372.
Submissions should be addressed to The Chief Executive Officer, Southern Downs Regional Council, PO Box 26 Warwick, Qld, 4370 or handed in to a council office.
