Gates get heritage listing

BREAKING: The Southern Downs Regional Council has issued a statement announcing that the Leslie Centenary Memorial Gate in Leslie Park has been State heritage-listed.
The statement said the Queensland Heritage Council has decided at its July meeting to include the gate “as a significant element within the heritage boundary of Leslie Park”.
The four sandstone pillars and the iron gates were gifted to the council by the then owner of Glengallan Homestead, Oswald Slade, in 1940 to mark the centenary of the Leslie Brothers settling in the area.
All of Leslie Park is included on the Queensland Heritage Register.
The Glengallan Homestead Trust had sought the return of the gate to the homestead for its 150th anniversary later this year.
A community member lodged an application for the heritage listing in May.
