Rain on the horizon

By Jeremy Sollars

Warwick and Stanthorpe can expect the chance of a gusty storm later today, Monday 9 October, and on Tuesday.
Wet conditions are likely to dominate the weather situation across the region this week as a weak ridge of high pressure is maintained along the tropical east coast of Queensland.
The Bureau of Meteorology says a series of upper level troughs sweeping eastwards across the south of the state will maintain unstable conditions over much of western and southern Queensland in the next few days.
Another coastal trough will likely move north into southern Queensland waters on Tuesday. A surface trough will move into the central interior on Wednesday.
Today’s forecast for both Warwick and Stanthorpe is for partly cloudy conditions with a 70 per cent chance of showers, most likely during this afternoon and evening.
There is the chance of a gusty thunderstorm late in the day, possibly severe, with winds northerly at 15km/h to 25km/h, tending north-westerly in the middle of the day then becoming light in the late afternoon.
Daytime maximum temperatures will be in the low 30s for Warwick and upper 20s for Stanthorpe today and tomorrow.
A similar forecast is likely for Tuesday with rainfall contracting back to showers from Wednesday through to Friday and possibly the weekend, with daytime maximums form Wednesday onwards in the high 20s for Warwick and low 20s for Stanthorpe.
