Quick-thinking truckie unhurt after fire

Quick action by a truck driver prevented a more serious situation from developing when his rig caught fire on the New England Highway through Warwick late last night, Tuesday 23 January.
A semi-trailer was cruising along Wallace Street when the trailer caught fire near the intersection with Locke Street, near Warwick Hospital.
The driver pulled over adjacent to Victoria Park and managed to disconnect the prime mover from the trailer before fire crews arrived on the scene, with the emergency call coming in from the driver at 11.30pm.
Fire crews left the scene an hour later after extinguishing the fire.
Local residents have reported being awoken by the acrid smell of burning rubber and electrical odours in the vicinity.
The truck driver was unhurt.
