Questions of access

Star is an approved aged care service provider operating since 1996. Star’s award winning transport service has been supporting the community of Southern Downs for the past couple of years. The process of accessing aged care services can be confusing and overwhelming for some people.

Star’s District Coordinator, Natali Perrett answers some of the most commonly asked questions about starting the process of aged care services. For those with any other questions, please feel free to call Natalie Perrett on or visit STAR’s new office at 163 Palmerin Street, Warwick.

Q: My friend told me about subsidised transport for seniors. How do I get access to it?

A: Government subsidised aged care services are available to people aged 65 years or older, and 50 years or older for First Nations people. The first step to access any government-funded aged care service is to ring My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or apply online on www.myagedcare.gov.au. Star can also assist with the process. Simply give us a call. We are here to help.

Q: Is Star transport available for medical appointments only?

A: You can access Star transport for a range of appointments including

Medical appointments

Social events, visit to family and friends, birthdays, weddings

Everyday tasks such as shopping, banking

Any other appointments or visits such as hairdressing, gym, swimming etc

Q: What is the difference between CHSP services and Home Care Packages?

A: Depending on your care needs, aged care services can be accessed through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or a Home Care Package. The CHSP program aims to help those who need a low or basic level of support to keep living independently. Transport is an example of a CHSP service. Home Care Packages are for those with greater or more complex care needs on an ongoing basis. There are 4 levels of Home Care Packages. You can find out more on My Aged Care website www.myagedcare.gov.au or call 1800 200 422, or call STAR and ask to speak to one of our Care Coordinators.
