New and improved ideas for Zonta’s future

Zonta Stanthorpe members, Sandy Venn-Brown, Edith Boccari, and I returned with renewed enthusiasm and ideas for our club after attending the Zonta District 22 Conference in Mackay 8-10 September.

One hundred and thirty members representing 37 of the 43 District 22 clubs participated in the AGM, workshops, and presentations from various speakers. The focus was moving forward with the Zonta International Strategic Plan. Zonta, Gender Equity, and a Vision for 2030 and beyond which includes:

• Building upon the long-term success of Zonta Says NO as the flagship campaign for our international, national, and local activities for addressing gender-based violence.

• Zonta International will affirm ending child marriage as its signature project and will encourage support and advocacy on the issue at all levels of the organization.

• Zonta will fully embrace climate justice as an area of focus, further develop Zonta Says NOW as the flagship campaign for our activities to address climate justice at local, national and international levels.

Climate change was a key topic from Guest Speakers Pip Courtney addressing Australian Women and Climate Change and Jane Milburn – Build a Beter Wardrobe focusing on sustainable fashion reducing waste.

Annika Bränström, Zonta Club of Sundsvall, Sweden, Director Zonta International and Zonta Foundation for Women spoke on the Strategic Plan and Zonta Foundation for Women. Zonta Stanthorpe were also fortunate to host Annika at our September meeting where she delivered a condensed version to our members. Annika spent a few days on the Granite Belt before embarking on a road trip with Sandy Venn-Brown to attend the District 24 conference in Campbelltown from 5 September to 17 September.
