Small number attend resort redevelopment meeting

The proposed redevelopment of Cherrabah Resort attracted only a small number of residents to the community information evening on Tuesday.
Half an hour after the meeting had started, only 16 residents had attended the evening.
However, there was little publicity surrounding the event with the Southern Free Times only notified of the meeting last Thursday.
But in saying that, an information website has been developed –  www.have-your-say.com.au/cherrabah/ – which will include all of the information provided at the community consultation held on Tuesday. The information available will also be in response to queries raised by attendees at that event.
A master plan for the existing Cherrabah Resort has been developed to establish a vision for the future expansion of the resort.
The master plan includes a core resort precinct that will offer a range of facilities including an 18 hole golf course and golf club house, administration building and post office, restaurant and convention centre, convenience shopping facilities, a sports centre/gym, swimming pool and tennis courts, recreation facilities and an airstrip.
A range of resort/residential accommodation is proposed, ranging from a fully serviced camping ground, to luxury golf side units, to large rural residences and lots.
It is anticipated that upwards of 300 new jobs will be directly created through the resort operation in many areas such as hospitality, catering and recreation and estate management.
Hundreds more jobs will be created for local tradespeople and aligned services during the construction phase.
Whilst the proposal is still at the early stages of planning, the applicant, Joyful View Garden Real Estate are committed to sourcing local employment throughout the construction and operational phases of the master plan.
Residents have until May 3 to lodge their submissions to the Southern Downs Regional Council in relation to the proposal.
