Will you answer the call for help?

In times of disaster, you can always rely on the local State Emergency Service (SES), but in their time of need, can they rely on you?
The Stanthorpe SES needs another six to eight members to continue their vital work in the community.
About 18 months ago, the unit only had about eight members, but were able to recruit another four after the recent floods. But still more members are required.
Stanthorpe SES controller Max Hunter, who has been an SES member for 29 years, felt privileged and rewarded for being able to give back to his community.
“I think it gives you an opportunity to serve your fellow community members. It makes you feel part of the community and there’s a sense of pride when you pull off a search and rescue,” Mr Hunter said.
“With a close-knit community like Stanthorpe, you get a sense of achievement from doing something for nothing for your community by helping someone out, which is what life is about,” he said.
The SES also gives residents a chance to learn new skills.
Interested residents aged 18 years or over, who wish to assist in search and rescue, storm, wind and hail damage, communication and welfare duties or a number of other tasks the SES complete, should contact Mr Hunter on 0419 783 622.
