Countdown to Spring Spectacular

The hands of West school children, parents and teachers are busy in preparation for their annual Spring Spectacular Fete, to be held on Friday, September 9.
P&C President, Tracy Vellacott, said that the school’s annual fete was definitely a case of many hands make light work. Good weather will equate to strong attendance and plenty of excitement in the portable fairground.
“Our Spring Spectacular is the school’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and a wet and soggy 2010 fete has left us keen for a bumper event in 2011,” Mrs Vellacott said.
Mrs Vellacott believes the fete is an opportunity to draw on the strengths and expertise of parents, teachers and students, as well as the wealth of goodwill from community organisations.
Principal, Jason Callcott says the fete is a day when children and parents can enjoy some traditional fun together.
“With rides, food and entertainment, this is a day the kids look forward to all year and it also provides an important boost to the P&C’s ongoing program of enhancements to the school’s facilities,” Mr Callcott said.
This year’s amusement rides will include Mega Chairs, Rock ‘n Roll Round Up, Lasseter’s Lost Gold Mine, Super Slide and the Mat Hatter’s Cup and Saucer ride.
“Our oval becomes just like a regular sideshow alley, but the good thing is that parents can pay one price, and the kids can ride all night long,” Mrs Vellacott said.
Armbands, which entitle the wearer to unlimited rides for the fete’s duration, can be purchased from the school prior to fete day for $32 per person. P&C committees are a necessary part of the modern education system and work hard to raise funds to provide resources for students and teachers.
“We’ve recently allocated $36,000 in funding towards new reading resources for Prep to Year 3 students, so we have to sell a lot of fairy floss and show bags to fund this initiative,” said Mrs Vellacott.
Any enquiries should be made to the school by phoning 4660 5333.
