Stanthorpe stages successful stampede

The recent Stanthorpe Country Music Stampede received glowing reports from audience members, with some saying it was the best stampede for a long time.
Member for Southern Downs, Lawrence Springborg, gave a very stirring introduction followed by Maggie Stokes singing the National Anthem.
Artists at the event included Chad Morgan, Gordon Larkin, Reg Poole, Jeff Brown, Merv Maltman, Sharon Benjamin, Rod Williams, Trudy and Ged Hintz, Shorty Kampf  and Melissa Partridge.
Walk-ups over the weekend were of a very special quality. Sound equipment by Top Beat was perfect – the new extension of the Exhibition Centre was warm and dry and received by all as being a fantastic venue.
Lead guitarist Ricky Shipp was fabulous and the audience could not get enough of him.  Wild Spurs band provided great backing for all artists as required, as well as performing themselves. Wanted Dead or Alive had great audience appeal.
The Teenage Idol Competition was won by Allora’s Katie Dennis and received an Ashton electric guitar. The girls in the idol competition were invited to perform at Warwick Country Music Opry.
The next Opry is on Sunday at Saint Mary’s Hall, Warwick.
