Excitement builds for iconic event

With just over one week to go, the final preparations of one of Queensland’s favourite iconic events are well under way.
In 2009, the Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Festival received this accolade and the 2012 event is set to live up to people’s expectations.
Festival committee president Keith Barnett said the biennial festival attracted between 30,000 and 50,000 people to the small country town.
Mr Barnett said most of the visitors came from southern Queensland and northern New South Wales.
He believed the huge interest in the festival was a result of it being free and quirky events like the apple peeling competition and grape crush, which always provided a good laugh.
Popular attractions like the grand parade, street carnival, and fireworks will feature in the March 2-4 program, along with new events like a quilting competition and FretFest, a musical talent search, to keep the Apple and Grape Festival fresh.
