Lindsay eyes top job

Third generation Southern Downs local Lindsay Goodwin has decided to join the running for Mayor of Southern Downs Regional Council.
Mr Goodwin said the region was a place to be proud of and that he would consult the new Community Plan in his decision-making if he became Mayor.
“I intend to prioritise road maintenance and safety, along with sewerage and waste services,” he said.
“I am a strong supporter of a sustainable agricultural industry and will be campaigning against Coal Seam Gas and Mining in the region. I believe these industries are not renewable and will be detrimental to the future of our area and the lives of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
Budgets are also high on Mr Goodwin’s agenda.
“I am concerned about the budget process and I will ensure that a budget allowance is available for the full 12 months and will examine the cost of council rates and budget accordingly.”
Mr Goodwin said tourism presented endless opportunities to the region.
“I take a keen interest in development in our region and would like to encourage a good balance between new and existing businesses, and the growth of our residential population and employment across the Southern Downs,” he said.
“I intend to maintain my policy of ‘shop locally’ and encourage other local business to do the same in order to support the region.
“I believe that, if we continue to keep doing things the same way and with the same people as we have been doing, then we cannot expect a different outcome.”
