Tenterfield hosts Rodeo Queen Camp

The Australian Rodeo Queen Quest Inc, National Rodeo Council of Australia held its third successful Rodeo Queen Camp at Wangrah Wilderness Lodge, Tenterfield recently for entrants in the 2012 Quest.
The entrants came from as far as Mareeba, Toowoomba, Mt Tarampa and Warner in Queens-land to participate in a full weekend of lessons on grand entries, rules and regulations, modelling, public speaking and lessons on scrapbooking to enhance their portfolios.
They also discussed the duties of the Rodeo Queen for travel in the USA and Canada.
Other entrants from Western Australia and Victoria were unable to attend because of the distance.
The entrants were also lucky to have the current Rodeo Queen, Courtney McGeechan, available to give them plenty of advice and tips.
The trip to the USA and Canada is one of the many prizes, which the entrant will win if she is crowned Australian Rodeo Queen.
It involves a whirlwind 21 days of seven planes and 19,000 miles visiting Calgary, Canada, Los Angeles, Texas, Denver and Cheyenne.
She will participate in the Calgary Stampede in a street parade with more than 35,000 spectators, breakfasts with underprivileged and disabled children, lunches and dinners and much, much more.
In Cheyenne she will take part in the Cheyenne Frontier Days festival riding solo across the main arena representing Australia and in two street parades as well as breakfasts, lunches and dinners, media interviews and other events.
The trip is a 21-day non-stop promotion of Australia and Australian rodeo and the trip of a lifetime for the lucky and hardworking winning entrant.
At the close of the camp, the president of the Australian Rodeo Queen Quest, Sharon Piggott, thanked Maryanne Powell and Gail Buckingham for their help during the weekend.
Entries are still open for the 2012 Quest, which will be judged in October.
