Powerline suspicions are growing as residents learn of more high voltage powerlines that have been in the planning for years.
Easements were purchased up to two years ago by Ergon Energy, along the New England Highway near Fletcher Creek, with landowners advised that the land was needed for an ‘upgrade’ to the existing line.
The upgrade was described as poles very similar to high voltage transmission lines planned for the northern side of Stanthorpe.
The widening of existing easements near Ballandean is similar to the situation facing residents between Stanthorpe and Warwick on the preferred line route where landowners are fighting against the proposed second 110kv line.
However, the Ballandean power station site still sits dormant, awaiting a sod to be turned, sparking speculation that the new line between Warwick and Stanthorpe may just be the first phase in a major upgrade of infrastructure to supply other areas.
AWARE will be hosting another community meeting for residents from the Stanthorpe and surrounding areas this Sunday at the Lawdogs Australia Arena, 335 Church Road, The Summit from 10am.
The meeting is open to any concerned landowners wishing to share information and learn from others. Residents, particularly from areas south of Stanthorpe from the Ballandean area or anyone who has existing easements on their land from Ergon Energy, are invited to attend.
