Wintersong Carnival to raise spirits

Celebrating the legacy of Peter Allen, Tenterfield will light up for their Wintersong Carnival from June 18 to 26.
Street art projects like a light fountain in the town pool will again be a feature, thanks to Essential Energy.
Kicking off the carnival calendar, Borderline Regional opened their Artsong exhibition on June 3 at Forest to Furniture with a bright new show. It is the first of many activities to see and do in town this month.
This is just Tenterfield’s second Wintersong festival, but the unique occasion is getting a warm reception in the old town.
Carnival arts projects put art and music on centre stage and, as retailers get into the carnival spirit, there has never been a better time to get downtown.
A major sponsor of the street art program is Klas Accounting. Encouraging colour, creativity and good old fashioned gaiety, they are putting up the prize for best float in the parade.
More than 20 community groups and businesses have signed on ready to make a spash on parade day Saturday, June 23.
The New England Highway will be closed to traffic from 12.30pm and more fun will follow down at the showgrounds from 1pm where live bands, markets, and plenty of food will be served up.
Tune into Community Ten FM each morning to test your Peter Allen trivia and you could be a winner. If you can’t make parade day, then catch their live broadcast.
Music will be in the air and buskers are welcome all week.
Breeze FM will be sponsoring this year’s Tribute Concert at the School of Arts where a glittering new show, celebrating the important songs from Tenterfield, will be staged by emerging young stars.
Check out the website for the host of other gigs and activities for that week at www.wintersong.org.au or call 0468 319 660 to find out more.
