Excitement mounts for art initiative

St Mark’s Art Show committee members Rev Rod Winterton and Ms Heather Hibbitt discuss the entries received for art@StMark’s.
Excitement is mounting for the committee members of art@St Mark’s, an initiative for the 2012 Jumpers and Jazz Festival.
Designed as an opportunity for local artists to display and sell their paintings and other hangable art, the art show has attracted 100 entries from 25 artists.
On Saturday, the doors of St Mark’s Parish Hall on Grafton Street will open to the public, with free entry, from 10am to 3pm to allow viewing and purchase of the artwork. EFTPOS facilities will be available for non-cash purchases.
All of the senses will be catered for as the ladies of St Mark’s Guild will be offering freshly baked scones and pikelets accompanied by freshly brewed coffee and speciality teas.
The official launch of art@St Mark’s will take place from 4pm to 6pm in the parish hall.
Tickets are $10 each and are available from the office on (07) 4661 7223 from 9am to 12pm tomorrow or from 10am Saturday.
Wine and savouries will be served, with music to be provided by guitarist Sue York, David Bruggemann on sax and Janine Stewart playing the flute. This will be an opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their artwork.
Sunday again offers the opportunity for the public to view and purchase the art from 10am. The East Street Singers will provide entertainment from 10am, complemented by the Guild’s Devonshire Teas. The art show will close at 3pm.
St Mark’s Women’s Guild will again have decorated the crepe myrtle tree immediately in front of St Mark’s Church. Guided by the inspiration of Linda Stewart, this continues another year of non-competitive participation in the Jumpers and Jazz Festival tree decoration.
An opportunity to learn more about St Mark’s Church will occur on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm, when members of the parish will be available to show everyone around the historic church.
St Mark’s Anglican Parish, corner of Albion and Grafton Streets, Warwick looks forward to welcoming local residents and visitors to all or any of their events during Jumpers and Jazz 2012.
