Garry inducted into Hall of Fame

Garry Murphy.

Recently, Shell Australia and the National Road Transport Hall of Fame celebrated the 17th annual National Road Transport Hall of Fame Reunion in Alice Springs.
The event, which Shell has been a sponsor of for the past 12 years, saw truck drivers and transport industry members travel to Alice Springs to recognise the 130 inductees of the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame who were honoured for their lifetime of service to the transport industry on Saturday.
Warwick resident Garry “Spud” Murphy is one of this year’s inductees.
Mr Murphy started his life-long driving career at just 18 years of age when he took a job driving for Claude Robbins carting bottles for the Manufacturing Bottling Company.
Throughout his career, he has operated as a truck owner driver and been involved with well-known and iconic companies including Bell Bros, Lindsay Bros, Theiss Bros, Gatton Freighters and Brambles Heavy Haulage.
“With nearly 50 years on the road behind me, I have made life-long friends along the way and am still in contact with them – I have really fond memories of my time on the road,” Mr Murphy said.
Gavin Corcoran, Shell Transport marketing manager said: “Shell is a proud and long-term sponsor of the National Road Transport Hall of Fame and in particular the Shell Rimula Wall of Fame celebrations. It is always such a great experience to come up to Alice Springs and honour the hard work and achievements of the dedicated drivers from the Australian transport sector”.
