Special guest for Dad’s Read event

The Mayor enjoys ‘The Magic Hat’.

Southern Down Council Mayor Peter Blundell will be taking time out to read to the little ones this week as part of the National Year of Reading.
The event is part of the State Library of Queensland’s Dads Read program, which aims to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of fathers and families reading with their children in their early developmental years, particularly from 0 to 3 years of age.
Reading with your children will help them develop a love of reading and will also strengthen their literacy skills.  It models positive reading behaviour and builds children’s self-esteem around reading which is a fundamental life skill.
Cr Blundell will be reading at the Warwick library today, Thursday, September 6, at 10.30am and is free. The book chosen for the Mayor to read is “The Magic Hat” by Mem Fox.
“I am very pleased to be able to be a part of the National Year of Reading by taking part in these storytelling sessions,” Cr Blundell said.
“Reading is such an important aspect of learning for children and I am always happy to lend a hand to such a worthwhile endeavor.”
Two story telling sessions will be held – one at the Stanthorpe library on Tuesday 4 September @ 10.30am and one at the Warwick library on Thursday 6 September @ 10.30am.
For more information on the story telling session contact the Warwick Library on 4661 0342.
