50th year for festival

Some winners from last year’s festival.

Golden anniversaries are often celebrated and this year, Warwick’s St. Mark’s Women’s Guildwill join the internationally known Beatles and the James Bond films amongst others, in celebrating their own milestone fiftieth event.
A half century has gone by and there are many fond memories of those past Guild Members who contributed so much to the success of past fifty Rose Festivals. From 1962 to the mid-nineties, the Guild Members, bolstered by husbands and other parishioners, showcased their musical and acting talents.
The popular and well supported variety concert formed the entertainment for the afternoon’s public event. These days, our more mature and smaller group prefers to offer the stage to local performers which allows them to shine whilst the Guild ladies concentrate on what still provides, apart from the roses, perhaps the best reason for many to come to the festival – the home baked afternoon tea!
On Friday, October 12, entries in the festival competition will be accepted in the Parish Hall on Grafton Street, Warwick from 8:30 to 10:30am. There is no charge to enter the competition. The Trophy Presentation and social afternoon commences at 1:30pm and for $6 per person entry, will include the usual door prize, raffles, mini cent sale and entertainment along with memorabilia, the rose display and a scrumptious afternoon tea.
The special anniversary competition section: a floral art table arrangement on the theme of golden years and roses titled As I like it – will be judged by popular vote during the afternoon. Although we hope that the weather will cooperate and provide plenty of roses, this section does not have to include fresh flowers. Full details of all of the entry categories are available in Schedules available from St. Mark’s Church.
St. Mark’s Women’s Guild looks forward to welcoming everyone to their 50th Annual Rose Festival. We especially encourage previous section winners to again compete and encourage other gardeners to also showcase their talents especially in the Novice Section.
