Docs rushed off their feet

CAPTION: Heavy machinery building the foundation of the new Allora Medical Centre this week.

CONSTRUCTION work on the new Allora Medical Centre has commenced this week as demand for health services reaches new heights, according to practice manager Sharon Caldwell.
Mrs Caldwell said she was relieved that works were underway as doctors were being forced to share rooms under the current facility.
“Until construction is complete, by October, we have three doctors sharing two rooms,” she said.
“Demand for our newest doctor (Dr Ramin Kausary) has been very high and we’re finding his days are filling very quickly.”
Dr Kausary joins two other permanent doctors at Allora including Dr Kaye Ellis and Dr Leith Geisel.
Dr Kausary and Dr Geisel have also established a general practice clinic at the Killarney Nursing Home, servicing both guests at the home and Killarney residents.
Mrs Caldwell said that although demand to see the doctors was high, the practice was working hard to fit everyone in.
“We’ve had lots of sick kids lately and we’re trying our best to fit everyone in,” she said.
Mrs Caldwell said the current waiting room was too small and was often crowded.
“Doctors will see about 24 to 25 patients per day, however, because three doctors are sharing two rooms it makes it difficult,” she said.
“But we always find a way to fit everyone in and we welcome newcomers.”
