Early birds’ reward

SOUTHERN Downs’ ratepayers have 30 days from the date of issue to pay their full rates bill to receive a 10 per cent early bird discount for the 2013/14 rates notice.
Residents can also object to their rating category by asking in writing within 30 days of the date on their 2013/14 rates notice for a review of the category applied to their property.
Rates notices are expected to be received by residents during early August.

Farmers gain time
FLOOD-affected farmers will be granted a concession period in which to pay their 2013/14 rates.
The concession is being offered in accordance with the Local Government Regulation 2012.
“Eligible ratepayers will be able to defer payment of rates and charges for up to a period of 180 days after the issue date,” the Director of Business and Community Services David Tuxford said.
Council advises that the discount will only be allowed where all rates and charges are paid on the property.
The discount does not apply to a rate or charge paid in full of other rates and charges remain unpaid on the land.

Pipeline funded
A TOTAL of $5 million has been budgeted by the Southern Downs Regional Council to connect Allora with the Warwick water supply.
The massive undertaking will see a pipeline run from the Freestone Road Reservoir through to Womina/Willowvale Road, to the west of Mr Marshall and then directly along the New England Hwy to Allora.
While Allora’s current water supply in perfectly safe, according to council’s Director of Engineering Services Peter See, residents had expressed concern over the effect the water has on appliances.
