WINE critic James Halliday has heaped praise on Stanthorpe winery Robert Channon Wines, labeling the winery one of Australia’s best producers of verdelho.

Mr Halliday reviewed the Robert Channon Wines Verdelho 2012 and awarded the wine 93 points out of 100.
In his comments to owners Robert and Peggy Channon, Mr Halliday said the verdelho reached another level of length and intensity, with the flavours spreading through the length and breadth of the palate, the fruit salad notes tempered by a jab of citrus/lemon.
Mr Channon said he was delighted to receive such a sterling commendation.
“This sort of review also helps to cement the Granite Belt’s position at the cutting edge of districts that make the best verdelho in Australia,” he said.
James Halliday has previously described Robert Channon’s Stanthorpe winery as “arguably Australia’s foremost producer of verdelho”.
