Tourists want a touch of frost

THE Granite Belt is gearing up for an influx of tourists as minimum temperatures plummet this week.
Karen Rowen from the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre said accommodation had booked out during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend and she expected similar interest now that the cold had set in.
“They really like to just experience the great outdoors, believe it or not, they like to wear their scarves and their beanies and their gloves and rug up the way they see it on television but can’t really experience it at home because it just doesn’t get cold enough,” she said.
“They’re out there early in the morning walking along the creek there and pursuing the outdoor activities.”
She says tourism operators were hoping the low temperatures continued.
