Help shape future care

A SERIES of workshops in Warwick and Stanthorpe will seek feedback from mental health sufferers and carers to help shape the way mental health services are provided in the region.

The new initiative, known as Contributing Life Conversations, was designed to ensure the voices of people living with mental illness, or those caring for someone with a mental illness, were driving mental health reform.
Southern Downs Consumer Representative for Mental Health, Christine Stammers, said from Monday, 22 July to Sunday, 11 August, the Commission was encouraging residents to meet in homes, workplaces, cafés, parks and public spaces to have a ‘Contributing Life Conversation’.
“These conversations are about sharing what ‘A Contributing Life’ means to each of us, and discussing what gives our lives meaning and purpose,” Mrs Stammers said.
“I would like to encourage those living with a mental illness and those caring for someone or connected to someone with a mental illness to attend one of our workshops.”
Discussion venues:
10am, Monday 29 July Headspace, Albion St, Warwick;
10.30am, Tuesday 30 July Art Works on Davadi, Davadi St, Stanthorpe;
10am, Friday 2nd August, Warwick Library, Albion St.
People’s responses are then emailed and mailed back to the National Mental Health Commission to compile a report on this important aspect which is often forgotten as people recover from a mental illness.
If you are unable to attend these times you can still take part by hosting your own event. For more information, visit www.contributinglife.com.au/conversations or email your responses directly to Christine Stammers: cestammers@gmail.com
