Trekkers fight hunger

By JONATHON HOWARD

WARWICK residents may have seen Julie and Michael Weston pounding the pavement during the early hours each morning – they’re not mad, just in training to fight hunger.
The couple have signed up for this year’s Hike4Hunger which involves an eight-day trek from Canberra to Mount Kosciuszko to support underprivileged people through The Hunger Project.
Mrs Weston said she was inspired to take part in the worthwhile cause after completing a similar fund-raiser earlier this year.
“The Hunger Project is a global, non profit, strategic organisation committed to the sustainable end of hunger,” she said.
The couple need to raise about $3000, and have already made it half way to their target.
“We’re hosting a garage sale this Sunday in Warwick and we’d love for people to drop by say ‘hello’ and offer their support where possible,” she said.
Mrs Weston will also auction off a handmade quilt she made specifically for fund-raising.
The garage sale will take place this Sunday at 26 Junabee Road, Warwick from 7am.
Tickets for the quilt, which depicts the snowy mountains and is named “Springtime in Kozzie, are available from Clare’s Hair Together in the Rose City Shoppingworld. The quilt winner will be drawn 31 August.
