Enjoy winter in Killarney with a Bonfire Night

Killarney Memorial Aged Care invites metalworkers, amateur and professional, to create a Fire Drum for their Bonfire Night winter fundraiser on Saturday, July 23.
Winter in Killarney “Bonfire Night” will include a giant bonfire, food, children’s games, a jumping castle, a licensed bar, fire twirling and music by Bruce Halter from 3.30pm to 9pm at the Killarney Polocrosse Fields.
Bonfire Night is Killarney’s official Jumpers and Jazz event.
The Fire Drums will be lit for display as part of the event and the best Fire Drum will win a prize.
What is a Fire Drum?
The old fashioned kind of heater – created out of necessity. In its most simple form, the Fire Drum is a 44-gallon drum with some axe holes knocked in for air.
The Fire Drum is an essential item for a winter party in the Southern Downs!
For Bonfire Night they want to “hot up” the fire drums. Cut them, weld them or punch them to make a functional work of art.
There is an entry fee of $10 per drum, with a jackpot prize of 50 per cent of entry fees for the winning entry in each category.
Category one includes fire drums significantly based on 44-gallon drums; drums may be full or half drums and they may be decorated or refashioned, but must still be functional as a fire drum.
Category two is all other metal-work fire drums and braziers.
Entries are due by Thursday, July 21, and a program of drum contributors will be created.
Drums are to be delivered to Killarney Polocrosse Fields, Willow Street, Killarney on Saturday, July 23, by 3pm.
To enter your drum, or for more details, contact Paul Fox on (07) 4664 1154 or visit killarney.org.au
