School holiday fun at Council’s libraries

If you are looking for some fun activities to keep children busy during the school holidays, then the library is a great place to visit.
School holidays are a great time to introduce children to their local library and library staff, and to explore the fantastic collection of books, DVDs, CDs, magazines and puzzles available.
Principal Librarian, Samantha Shelbourn, said that libraries provide plenty of low cost, holiday fun for children in a safe and welcoming environment.
“During the holidays a range of activities will be available during library hours at both the Warwick and Stanthorpe libraries,” Ms Shelbourn said.
At the Warwick library, children can keep busy at the Activity Table  from Monday, September 24 to Saturday, October 6, which will offer a range of self paced activities, as well as ‘I Spy’, which runs throughout the holidays, and a Caterpillar Hunt to find ‘food’ hidden around the library for the very hungry Caterpillar.
“The Caterpillar Hunt will be great fun as everyone searches for the ‘food’ and they also have the chance to win great prizes,” Ms Shelbourn explained.
Sessions will also be held on Grass Heads making and DIY Gift Wrapping.  Please note that bookings are essential for these activities.
For the Stanthorpe Library, Librarian Christine Taylor has organised a pirate themed treasure hunt and pirate themed activity tables for the two weeks of school holidays.
“As the final event for the 2012 National Year of Reading, Southern Downs Libraries will also be participating in Teen Read month during October, with a Teen Read Bingo Challenge,” said MsTaylor.
“This is a great way to get teens reading, with the ultimate goal of completing a bingo card to be eligible to enter a prize draw,” she said.
