Slade School was opened in February 1926, due mainly to the efforts of Archdeacon Glover, Mr W B Slade, Mr J H S Barnes, Mr J D Rowland and Mr R M Stephenson. Archdeacon Glover and Mr Barnes toured the countryside seeking funds for the new venture. Some thousands of pounds were raised. Among the many who gave so freely were R Macansh, W Goodrich, G E Kemp, P J W Hill, H G Hill, W Lloyd, J G McDougall, E F Batterhem, A Crothers and A F Rogersen.
These men went on to support the school, firstly, in the development of the Science Block, a memorial to fallen students, and secondly, supported the donation and movement of Glengallan Homestead to the Slade Campus, promising many pounds towards each. The moving didn’t eventuate due to huge logistical problems.
The community has given so much to the school over the years, firstly financially and secondly by welcoming all those families into their community. It is now time to give Slade back to the people of Warwick.
